Epsilon Eta Sigma Alumni Chapter – Peoria, Illinois
Purpose
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a national collegiate sorority founded November 12, 1922, and incorporated under the laws of the State of Indiana in 1929. Our objective is to strengthen communities through community service in order to build a stronger nation. Our local chapter, Epsilon Eta Sigma, was established as a graduate chapter in the Peoria area on September 10, 1979. As a graduate chapter, we encourage and promote high academic achievement. We believe that we can encourage our youth to seek higher education by providing financial assistance.
SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Sigma Gamma Rho Academic Scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable monetary award to be applied toward expenses incurred to attend an accredited college or university. The scholarship award amounts vary from year to year. Our award amount will always be at least $500 and will be disbursed to the recipient in one installment at the beginning of the fall of freshman year. Proof of full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credit hours) must be provided.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection of scholarship recipients will be based upon the following criteria:
• Minority resident of the greater Peoria area
• 2024-2025 graduating high school Senior
• Minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale
• Leadership qualities as evidenced through activities, interests, and affiliations within school and the community
• Acceptance to an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year
APPLICATION PROCESS
Complete and sign the enclosed application form and attach the following:
• Official high school transcript (through the seventh semester) including cumulative grade point average
• Copy of admission letter to an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.
• Two letters of reference (including name, address, and telephone number) - one from a teacher or counselor, and one from an adult other than a relative or a personal friend, who can attest to your character.
• A personal statement in which you describe yourself in terms of experiences, activities, and aspirations.
The personal statement must include how you plan to pay for college expenses:
(a) typed.
(b) double-spaced; and
(c) maximum of 2 pages
• NOTE: You must complete all fields on this application. Incomplete applications and/or applications submitted after Friday, March 21, 2025, will not be considered.
• Students will submit applications electronically to peoriasgrhoscholarship@gmail.com. The deadline for all electronic submissions is Friday, March 21, 2025.
• After the committee reviews all the applications, it will be determined which applicants will move to the next phase of the process which will include an interview.
